Restoration process: Cast iron bathtubs with legs |
Posted: January 17, 2020 |
During this time we have restored dozens of bathtubs throughout Canada with total satisfaction from our customers. We have a large stock of old bathtubs to restore. Most of the old-legged bathtubs that are found today are in quite a bad condition, both inside and outside, so it is necessary to perform a laborious recovery work to return them as much as possible to the original aspect that you are they had. The bathtub refinishing process is therefore divided into two parts: -Restore the outer surface of the bathtub -Restore the interior surface of the bathtub The restoration of the outer surface of the bathtub Usually, this surface is quite damaged from oxides and paint, so it is necessary to chemically and mechanically rough the entire surface to remove any trace of these elements. Once the surface has been completely clean, several layers of antioxidant primer and enamel with the desired final color are applied, resulting in an excellent final finish. It is also possible to leave the surface ready for you to apply any glaze of the color of your choice. The legs also carry the same process, although in these pieces the problem that arises in many occasions is the lack of a complete set of four, so it is necessary to cast the remaining ones in aluminum in case we do not have any similarities in our stock. The restoration of the interior surface of the bathtub As the exterior surface, the interior is also usually quite damaged, usually with parts of the enamel jumped and rusted, so it is necessary to reapply a layer of enamel to the entire interior surface. We use synthetic porcelain tested for more than twenty years in different countries developed by the American company, leader in the sanitary enameling service present in several countries of the world. This company has been present since 1991 under the name of Permaglas, with a franchise chain that serves the main cities of the national territory. Permaglas is a state-of-the-art resin with a high content of microcrystals that offer extraordinary hardness (fastness hardness 292 S), as well as a silky touch and unparalleled shine. The elements treated with Permaglas do not yellow over time or in contact with hot water. The chips are repaired to the original surface of the bath and cleaned, then a J-4 primer, a Permaglas cover layer and a Permaglas synthetic porcelain are applied. The end result is a surface similar to the original enamel in touch and shine.
